About Me

My Background:

In 1974 I trained as a State Registered Nurse and went on to spend some time in the community as a District Nursing Sister. Since then I have brought up 2 children and taken several courses in Effective Parenting and Understanding Adolescents. Prior to commencing the Diploma in Counselling I spent several years learning British Sign Language / Deaf Awareness and gained my stage 2 certificate.

My Training and Qualifications:

Nine years ago I gained my Diploma in Humanistic counselling at Spurgeon’s College, West Norwood. I am also a qualified Bereavement Counsellor, having trained at and worked for Sutton and Merton’s Bereavement Service for several years.

Three years ago I gained a Diploma in Psychology and during the time since qualification I have attended a variety of short courses. The subjects studied have included Couple counselling; Sexual wholeness; Attachment and early Trauma; Abuse and Trauma; Rape and Sexual Abuse; Race, Culture and Diversity.

I have been supervising other counsellors for the past 4 years and have achieved my Diploma in Clinical Supervision.

I am an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedures therein. I am also a UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor. As an Accredited member of BACP I am committed to Continuing Professional Development and seek to develop and inform my work with my clients. As the Accreditation requires, I have frequent and ongoing supervision of my work.

I have worked in Private Practice for the past 9 years and during this time have also gained several years experience working as a counsellor in an outpatient department of my local hospital. I have also worked for 2 years as a counsellor for the young and not so young students at a local Further Education College, along with continuing my work for a local counselling service.
