The Venue
Counselling will take place at my home address in a room set aside for that purpose. As I cannot provide a waiting room, it would be helpful if you could arrive on time to ensure that I will be able to meet you when you arrive.
Confidentiality
Our sessions will be private and confidential between ourselves in accordance with the BACP ethical framework, I do however maintain brief case notes. As my Accreditation requires, I have supervision of my work, but seek to keep my clients anonymity, whilst exploring the counselling processes involved.
Extent of Counselling
Counselling sessions are for 50 minutes on a weekly basis and the total number of sessions needed will be discussed and agreed between us, as they vary from person to person. I have no set time limit for counselling, but will work with you for whatever length of time is agreed between us.
Ending Counselling
The time to end counselling will normally be agreed between us. Usually it is important to have at least one session or several if counselling has been long term, to discuss your feelings about ending. It is not advisable to end counselling simply by stopping coming. Counselling can sometimes be painful and it is better to explore this rather than stop when difficulties arise.
Availability
Normally I will be able to offer an appointment within the week, although this may not be a regular appointment time. I appreciate that it takes courage to make the first contact with a counsellor and to wait longer than a week can increase anxiety unnecessarily.
